In the States, persimmons and I never really crossed paths. The first time I ever ate one was when I came to the island this year. I do remember seeing them at the natural food markets, but I wasn't as adventurous as I am now, being that most of my diet is made up of fruits. So, I'm always looking for that new little spark to add for flavor and to pack in the carbs. It's all about the carbs baby! Contrary to what most humans believe, the clean, simple carbs, are incredibly important. They give us energy. They give us life. For an athlete to operate at peak performance, our body needs to burn the food into energy as fast as possible. Clean, pure food can convert into energy almost instantaneously in some cases. This also applies to people that just want to be awesome at life and eat clean. We need to energy to go to work, we need energy to smile when one's boss is being a dick. Fuel accordingly, and as cleanly as you want/can.
Here is my quick and dirty persimmon pie smoothie...
- 6 Dates ( I soaked my dates overnight b/c they were a little on the crusty side)
- 2 Persimmons
- Almond Milk (enough to cover the above ingredients, I like mine a little watery)
- Heap of cinnamon
You could also substitute water for the almond milk, but on this special morning I felt like more of a rich and creamy drink. I typically do half almond milk, half water, more for economic reasons (almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, are ridic over here… pretty expensive, everything has to be imported to the island). But half almond and half water or just water always seems to suit my smoothie fancy. This recipe is just the bones. You do whatever you want with it, add more spices, fruit, etc… make it your own. Enjoy!
